Carmen Nelson Richards papers, 1940-1961.

The collection consists of the questionnaires, autobiographies and some letters from the people surveyed in preparation for Richards' books, "Minnesota writes," and "Minnesota writers." Also included is a foreward written by President Coffey for Richards' anthology, "Minnesota Skyline" and a signed poem, "Power" by Joseph Warren Beach, written for the same book.

Carmen Richards was born in Minneapolis and received her B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1913. She was public school teacher and taught at various schools in Minnesota and Florida. She joined the University of Minnesota Alumnae Club in 1945, and from 1958-1960 served as president. During her tenure as president, the Alumnae Club Scholarship Fund was started.
